Three-Time Super Bowl Champion Jim Fahnhorst Passes Away at 66
Jim Fahnhorst, a former San Francisco 49ers linebacker and three-time Super Bowl champion, has died at the age of 66, the team confirmed Thursday. His passing occurred on Wednesday, though no cause of death was disclosed.
Fahnhorst played for the 49ers from 1984 to 1990, contributing to the franchise’s victories in Super Bowls XIX, XXIII, and XXIV. Originally drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the fourth round of the 1982 NFL Draft, he chose to begin his professional career in the USFL before signing with San Francisco.
In a statement, the 49ers expressed their sorrow: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of former linebacker Jim Fahnhorst. Our thoughts are with his family.”
Jim was the younger brother of Keith Fahnhorst, a longtime offensive lineman for the 49ers, who also passed away at age 66 in 2018.
