Portsmouth Boss’ Forceful Transfer Response as Clamour Grows for Signings

Portsmouth FC head coach John Mousinho has issued a firm response to mounting calls from supporters for fresh signings, as the club continues its pre-season preparations in Slovakia. Despite fans voicing growing concern over the lack of transfer activity, Mousinho remains resolute in his approach, insisting that quality and fit will not be compromised in the rush to reinforce the squad.

So far, only one major signing—Australian midfielder Adrian Segecic—has joined the ranks at Fratton Park ahead of the club’s return to the EFL Championship. Supporters, eager to see Portsmouth strengthen across key areas, have voiced increasing impatience. However, Mousinho has reiterated that the club’s recruitment team is carefully targeting players who align with the team’s long-term strategy.

“We understand the excitement and expectations, especially going into a tougher division,” Mousinho said. “But we will not be pressured into making hasty signings that don’t match our values or the identity we’ve worked hard to build.”

The manager emphasized that the club’s disciplined transfer policy is designed to prevent short-term fixes and instead secure players who can contribute meaningfully across the season. He also acknowledged that several deals are in the pipeline, but stressed that negotiations must be allowed to run their course.

“We’re very active behind the scenes. There are multiple conversations ongoing, but nothing will be done unless it’s right for Portsmouth—technically, financially, and culturally,” he added.

Mousinho’s comments come at a time when other Championship sides, including Derby County, Birmingham City, and Stoke City, have already made multiple additions. Nonetheless, Portsmouth’s focus appears to be on targeted quality over quantity.

Meanwhile, speculation continues over potential exits, with defender Ryley Towler reportedly nearing a move to Lincoln City. The club also continues to assess trialists and potential overseas talent during its Slovakia training camp.

As the countdown to the 2025/26 Championship season begins, the pressure is mounting—but Mousinho remains calm, confident, and focused.

“The fans deserve a team that’s not just assembled quickly, but built for success. That’s what we’re doing—step by step.”
