LEAKED: Vancouver Canucks Have Appointed Former Iowa Wild Head Coach to Their Coaching Staff to Boster Power Play Under Adam Foote…
The Vancouver Canucks have officially appointed Brett McLean, former head coach of the Iowa Wild, to their coaching staff as an assistant coach.
McLean spent the last two seasons leading the Iowa Wild, during which the team compiled a record of 54 wins, 74 losses, 10 overtime losses, and 6 shootout losses. Despite his efforts, the team did not qualify for the Calder Cup Playoffs in either season.
At 46 years old, McLean transitioned from his professional playing career, which concluded in the 2016-17 season, directly into coaching. He started as an assistant coach with the Iowa Wild in the 2017-18 season and held that role for three years before advancing to the Minnesota Wild as an assistant coach.
A native of Comox, British Columbia, McLean is expected to oversee the power play under Adam Foote’s restructured coaching team in Vancouver.
During his playing days, McLean was selected in the ninth round of the 1997 NHL Draft by the Dallas Stars. He went on to tally 56 goals and 162 points across 385 NHL games, playing for the Chicago Blackhawks, Colorado Avalanche, and Florida Panthers. He also recorded 21 points in 36 AHL appearances with the Rockford IceHogs.
