The Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense stepped up to support their defense against the Washington Commanders, a trend that has emerged more frequently this season. Still, the Steelers are making adjustments on defense, aiming for the optimal lineup.
This became evident with a recent change in the inside linebacker rotation. After struggling to contain the New York Giants’ run game, the Steelers effectively shut down the Commanders’ offense, limiting quarterback Jayden Daniels to only four rushing yards.
A key part of this success was the switch from rookie Payton Wilson to veteran Elandon Roberts, who took over most of the game, playing more than 70 percent of the snaps. Wilson, in contrast, saw his playing time drop to a season-low 20 percent, as the Steelers sought a steadier presence. While Wilson had been gaining on Roberts’ snap count, his inconsistency led the team to rely more on Roberts for stability.
This rotation is expected to continue, especially with the upcoming game against the Baltimore Ravens, one of the NFL’s top rushing offenses. The Steelers will need to bring their best defensive lineup to meet the challenge.
