NFL insider Ian Rapoport continues to suggest that the New Orleans Saints are leaning toward selecting a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft…
This speculation has been consistent, with major sports analysts frequently linking the Saints to a first-round quarterback. ESPN’s Mel Kiper recently projected that the team would select Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart with the No. 9 overall pick. Meanwhile, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein suggest the Saints could either draft a QB early or trade back into the first round, potentially selecting Dart with the No. 32 pick.
Rapoport highlighted the team’s need for a long-term quarterback solution, stating that while Derek Carr remains their starter for now, his future beyond the short term is uncertain. He noted past discussions questioning whether Carr would even be the Saints’ quarterback this season.
The Saints reinforced their commitment to Carr after hiring new head coach Kellen Moore, restructuring his contract to ensure they aren’t in a position where drafting a quarterback is an absolute necessity. However, Rapoport emphasized that the team has thoroughly evaluated the quarterback class, maintaining a strong presence at Pro Days and private workouts. If the right quarterback is available within the top 10 picks, he believes the Saints could strongly consider making a selection.
Beyond Dart, Washington State’s Cam Ward has expressed interest in playing for the Saints, citing his childhood support for the team. Additionally, Deion Sanders mentioned that his son, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, would be interested in joining a franchise like New Orleans that is actively searching for a future signal-caller.
