Expect a Flag-Fest in Packers vs. Cardinals Clash

Sunday’s matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Arizona Cardinals could be a whistle-heavy affair, thanks to rookie referee Alex Moore. Promoted from umpire this season, Moore has quickly earned a reputation as the NFL’s most penalty-prone official.

Moore’s crew currently tops the league in total penalties, penalties per game, and overall yardage assessed. Only Carl Cheffers’ crew has penalized visiting teams more frequently—Cheffers flagged the Packers 14 times in Week 3 against the Browns, while Moore averages 9.7 flags per game on road teams.

Offensive holding and false start calls are especially common under Moore, with his crew averaging eight such infractions per game—well above the league average of 5.3. He’s also responsible for 14% of all defensive offsides calls league-wide.

Packers edge rusher Micah Parsons leads all non-linemen and defensive backs in penalties, racking up four infractions (two offsides, two neutral zone violations) in just five games. Whether he draws a holding call or gets flagged again himself remains to be seen.

Special teams flags are also surging across the NFL, up 43% per game this season. While Green Bay appears to be frequently penalized in the kicking game, they’re actually in the middle of the pack—tied for 11th to 17th in special teams infractions.
