Carter Hart Closing in on Decision: Down to Vegas or Carolina

Carter Hart is on the verge of choosing his next NHL destination, with the Vegas Golden Knights and Carolina Hurricanes emerging as the frontrunners.

TSN Insider Chris Johnston reported that Hart has narrowed his options to “three or four teams,” but confirmed that Vegas and Carolina are firmly in the mix. Johnston added that the goaltender is expected to eliminate the remaining contenders soon, with the timeline allowing him to agree to terms as early as Wednesday, October 1. His new contract could then be officially registered on October 15.

Several clubs have already stepped away from the chase. Hart’s former team, the Philadelphia Flyers, were informed he wanted a fresh start, while both Edmonton and Utah have also withdrawn. His camp has emphasized the importance of a clean slate after a turbulent 18 months, including a high-profile legal case—effectively ruling out Canadian franchises.

Per Johnston, Hart is likely to sign a two-year deal, begin with a conditioning stint in the AHL, and target an NHL return in early December.
