Canucks’ Tyler Myers Fined $2,500 for Spearing Connor McDavid

Vancouver Canucks defenceman Tyler Myers has been fined $2,500—the maximum allowable under the NHL’s collective bargaining agreement—for a controversial incident involving Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid during Saturday’s game at Rogers Place.

Midway through the third period, Myers found himself in a one-on-one defensive matchup as McDavid surged down the left wing at full speed. In an attempt to halt the Oilers’ offensive dynamo, Myers pivoted and lifted his stick between McDavid’s legs, striking him in a sensitive area. McDavid fell to the ice in visible discomfort but quickly recovered and continued playing. Edmonton went on to secure a 3–1 victory.

Although no penalty was assessed during the game, the NHL Department of Player Safety reviewed the play and issued the fine on Sunday.

Adding to a turbulent shift, Myers was penalized moments later for delay of game after launching a pressured zone-exit pass over the glass. On his way to the penalty box, he inadvertently clipped a linesman with his stick.
