Astros’ Offensive Woes Deepen in Detroit Sweep
Drop Fourth Straight, Fall 7–2 to Tigers

Mauricio Dubon’s opposite-field two-run homer finally snapped Houston’s 31-inning scoreless streak, but it was the lone bright spot in yet another dismal outing as the Astros were swept by A.J. Hinch’s surging Tigers.

Those two runs might’ve been enough yesterday with Hunter Brown on the mound, but today’s version of Framber Valdez—especially his disastrous first inning—put the game out of reach early. Valdez surrendered six runs before recording three outs, courtesy of three walks, two wild pitches, and a barrage of hits including a triple and a double.

Though Valdez steadied himself afterward and spared the bullpen further damage, the Astros’ bats remained silent against Detroit starter and former Houston fan favorite Charlie Morton. The Tigers’ bullpen, featuring ex-Astro Rafael Montero, kept the door firmly shut. Houston scraped together just five hits all game.

Meanwhile, the Phillies appear poised to dispatch the Mariners with similar ease, meaning Houston will cling to its 1.5-game lead in the AL West—a division that’s been floundering lately and doing little to inspire confidence.
