Antonios Papadopoulos Transfer to Legia Warsaw Hits Contract Snag
Warsaw, 5 September 2025 — Legia Warsaw’s pursuit of Lugano defender Antonios Papadopoulos has encountered unexpected turbulence, with negotiations reportedly stalled over contract terms.
Sources close to the deal suggest that while both clubs have agreed on a transfer fee, personal terms remain unresolved. Papadopoulos, 25, is said to be seeking a performance-based clause and a guaranteed starting role—conditions Legia is hesitant to formalize.
The Greek-German centre-back has been on Legia’s radar since early August, following standout performances in the Swiss Super League. His physicality and tactical discipline were seen as ideal reinforcements for Legia’s back line, especially after the departure of Jan Ziolkowski to AS Roma.
Club officials remain optimistic but cautious. “We respect Antonios’ ambitions,” a source within Legia’s management told local media. “But we also have to protect the club’s long-term structure and competitiveness.”
Papadopoulos has yet to comment publicly, though reports from Swiss outlets suggest he’s open to the move—if terms align with his career trajectory.
Legia fans, eager for defensive reinforcements ahead of the Europa Conference League qualifiers, will be watching closely as talks continue into the weekend.
