Alex Tóth Signs Contract Extension with Ferencváros: A Statement of Faith in Homegrown Talent
Ferencvárosi Torna Club has officially extended the contract of 19-year-old midfielder Alex Tóth, reinforcing the club’s long-standing commitment to nurturing homegrown talent and investing in the future of Hungarian football.
Tóth, a product of the FTC youth academy—with a brief developmental stint at Honvéd—has rapidly risen through the ranks, earning accolades for his mature and uncompromising style of play. After gaining experience with Ferencváros’ reserve and affiliate team Soroksár, he broke into the first team during the 2022/23 season and has since become a fan favorite.
In the 2024/25 campaign, Tóth played 1,330 minutes across 17 matches, scoring twice and providing eight assists—an output that not only distinguished him within the Ferencváros squad but also across the entire NB I league. His standout performances earned him the “Discovery of the Year” title in the RangAdó poll and the “Fradi Footballer of the Year” award from supporters.
Ferencváros’ sporting director, Tamás Hajnal, emphasized the strategic importance of the extension: “Alex is one of our own, and we’ve watched his development with pride. This new contract reflects both his value and the club’s belief in his continued growth. It’s a model partnership—professionally and personally—and we’re excited to continue this journey together”.
Tóth’s market value has soared to €2.5 million, making him the most valuable Hungarian player in NB I. He was also ranked 32nd among the world’s top 200 teenage footballers by the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES), placing him alongside elite prospects like Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsí.
His defining moment of the season came in the Champions League playoff against Qarabag, where he scored a decisive goal in the 83rd minute, showcasing his game intelligence and composure under pressure.
With this extension, Ferencváros not only secures one of Hungary’s brightest talents but also sends a clear message: the future of the club lies in its academy, its values, and its belief in the next generation.
