BREAKING: Mark Cuban Claps Back at Nico Harrison Over Dirk Nowitzki Comments as Sparks Fly in Dallas Front Office…
Things are heating up in Dallas.
On Tuesday, Mavericks GM Nico Harrison sat down for a roundtable with select local media members, marking his first public comments on the Luka Doncic trade since February. While much of what he said was questionable, one remark in particular raised eyebrows—a dig at Mavs legend Dirk Nowitzki.
Harrison stated:
“My responsibility is to the Dallas Mavericks—doing what’s best for the franchise comes first. Some decisions may not be popular with Dirk or the fans, but my loyalty lies with the team.”
This statement didn’t sit well with minority owner Mark Cuban, who jumped onto X (formerly Twitter) to defend Nowitzki and the fanbase, while also rallying support for the team ahead of Wednesday’s Play-In Tournament game against the Sacramento Kings.
Cuban wrote:
“Dirk is the Dallas Mavericks—past, present, and future. That statue isn’t going anywhere. Loyalty lasts.
Tomorrow, 15 guys will wear the Mavs jersey and fight to win—for themselves, each other, and for the fans.
I respect that effort and support them completely. I always will.
I’m a Mavs fan for life. No matter where I am—at the game, in front of the TV, or tracking every play online—my heart will always be with the Mavs.
I know fans are upset. But don’t take it out on the players. Get behind them. Cheer them on.
MFFL = Mavs Fan FOR LIFE.”
Cuban’s words were heartfelt, but many fans still feel betrayed by the organization’s decision to trade Luka Doncic—a beloved star who wanted to stay in Dallas. The way upper management, including Harrison, has handled Doncic’s departure has left a bad taste. Fans believe Doncic deserved a legacy in Dallas, possibly a statue next to Nowitzki’s. Instead, Harrison’s power move may end up costing the franchise hundreds of millions.
