Nuggets Owner’s Brief Comment on Michael Porter Jr. Trade Talks Speaks Volumes
The Denver Nuggets have begun restructuring their organization, starting with the dismissals of Michael Malone and Calvin Booth. With the team in a state of transition, much speculation surrounds their offseason roster decisions. While they’re still in the midst of a playoff run, few see them as serious contenders, shifting attention to what changes might come next.
Michael Porter Jr. has emerged as a central figure in these trade rumors. According to a report from Marc Stein and Jake Fischer, Porter is considered secure in his position. The piece highlighted that Porter’s close ties to the team’s ownership—especially through a shared alma mater, the University of Missouri—make it hard to envision the Nuggets trading him. “The Kroenkes have a fondness for Porter,” the report noted, adding that ownership has long been hesitant about any deal involving him.
Yet, in a recent press conference, Josh Kroenke addressed the rumors, denying the report’s claims. “I don’t know where that person got their sources,” he said, adding, “but I’m definitely not approving any trades unless there’s full organizational alignment and we’re getting the most out of the group we have.”
Kroenke’s comments show a cautious approach to roster decisions, but his firm denial may still leave the door open for significant moves—including the possibility of trading Porter.
