Avs Captain Landeskog Nets Goal in Second Game with Eagles
Gabriel Landeskog, captain of the Colorado Avalanche and veteran of 248 regular season NHL goals, added another goal to his career tally—this time in the AHL.
On Saturday night, Landeskog scored for the Colorado Eagles in Loveland, tying the game against the Henderson Silver Knights at 3-3. The Eagles would go on to win in a shootout. It marked his second game in as many nights after returning to professional play on Friday at Blue Arena, following a 1,020-day absence from the ice.
The goal, a power-play marker and Landeskog’s first in the AHL, came during a gritty play in front of the net, where he appeared to deflect the puck past the goalie to even the score in the third period. Although he didn’t convert in the shootout, his team secured their second consecutive win over Henderson.
It was a fitting moment in Landeskog’s long-awaited return, showing both resilience and determination. After feeling strong following Friday’s game, the Avs captain suited up again Saturday and made a significant impact.
With the NHL regular season wrapping up and the Avalanche set to face the Dallas Stars in Round 1 of the playoffs, all signs point to Landeskog potentially making his postseason return. While neither he nor head coach Jared Bednar has confirmed it, it would be surprising if he’s not on the ice for that series.
Landeskog’s return and gritty goal-scoring style could be just what the Avalanche need in their quest for another Stanley Cup.
