Edmonton Oilers to Announce New GM Soon
Oilers CEO Jeff Jackson recently updated fans on the search for a new general manager, stating an announcement will be made within the next 10 days.
Speculation about the Oilers’ next GM has intensified since Ken Holland’s tenure ended on June 30. Potential candidates include current assistant general managers Keith Gretzky and Brad Holland, as well as the controversial Stan Bowman. Some have even suggested that Jackson himself should take on the role full-time, given his successful handling of early free agency and recent trades.
However, Jackson reiterated that he is not interested in becoming the permanent GM. On “The Bob McCown Podcast,” Jackson explained, “I don’t want to be the general manager. I’m an active CEO, so I’m involved in the day-to-day operations, but being with the team daily, as a GM must, doesn’t work for me and my family.”
Despite this, Jackson assured fans that the decision process is underway and a new GM will be announced soon, likely within a week to 10 days. Another potential candidate is Mark Hunter, who has been linked to the Oilers’ GM position for some time. The new appointment will be one of the most prestigious general manager roles in the NHL.
