Stars Sign 2024 First-Round Pick Emil Hemming to Entry-Level Contract
On Tuesday, the Dallas Stars announced they have signed Emil Hemming, their first-round pick in the 2024 draft, to a three-year, entry-level contract. Hemming, selected 29th overall, tallied seven goals and four assists for 11 points during his debut season with TPS in the Finnish men’s league. Standing at 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, Hemming is known for his solid defensive play rather than physicality, which contributed to his appeal in this year’s draft.

âWhile Hemming shows creativity on offense, I project him as a future bottom-six forward who can use his strength to outmuscle opponents, maintain discipline, and work hard throughout the game,â noted Steven Ellis, a prospect analyst for Daily Faceoff, in his final NHL Draft Rankings. âWith improvements in his skating, Hemming could take on a larger role in the NHL. At the very least, his work ethic should secure him a spot in the lineup.â
The Stars plan to monitor Hemming during the 2024-25 season to assess his offensive development. Hemming played on Finlandâs fourth line in the last World Junior Championship and is expected to have a larger role in the 2025 tournament.
The Stars ended the 2023-24 season with a 52-21-9 record, leading both the Central Division and Western Conference with 113 points. They reached the Western Conference Final but were defeated by the Edmonton Oilers in six games.
Jason Robertson was the team’s top scorer with 80 points (29 goals and 51 assists), followed by Joe Pavelski with 67 points (27 goals and 40 assists).
