JUST IN: Jaw-Dropping Truth Behind Auburn’s Reluctance to Fire Hugh Freeze Despite Growing Uncertainty.

Auburn football’s Hugh Freeze era is only just beginning, and despite a rocky start, his future with the program appears secure. While Freeze’s first two seasons have seen more struggles than success, including continued NFL Draft woes since Gus Malzahn’s departure, Sports Illustrated’s Austin Walls believes Auburn is committed to the long haul.

“The fact that Auburn signed Freeze to a seven-year contract signals their long-term investment,” Walls explained. “His buyout currently stands at $20.3 million, meaning an early dismissal would come at a steep price.”

As Freeze heads into his third year, he will finally field a roster more reflective of his recruiting efforts, both through high school signings and transfer portal additions. Optimism remains that Auburn’s future under Freeze could be much brighter.

This level of job security isn’t a new sentiment. Back in October, 247 Sports’ Phillip Marshall reinforced that Freeze is locked in through at least 2026, even responding to criticism from an Auburn professor by stating unequivocally:

“He will get a third year and a fourth year.”

Marshall further emphasized that Auburn leadership is fully backing Freeze, acknowledging the mess he inherited and recognizing the strength of his recruiting efforts.

Auburn’s Athletic Director, John Cohen, also confirmed that Freeze was never in danger of losing his job.

“At no point,” Cohen told the Montgomery Advertiser. “We have incredible leadership, and there is constant communication in all aspects of our athletics program. While there’s always room for improvement, all the signs are positive.”

Cohen pointed to Auburn’s top-10 recruiting classes as a strong indicator of future success, adding that when a team is willing to fight for a coach and actively contribute to recruiting efforts, it’s a sign of something special brewing.

Ultimately, Freeze has been granted a level of patience rarely seen in Auburn football, especially in the wake of Bryan Harsin’s disastrous tenure. If anything, his first two years may have been almost as challenging—but the program remains confident that brighter days are ahead.
