The Denver Broncos topped the NFL in sacks during the 2024 season, but some fans are pushing for the team to explore a potential trade for Cleveland Browns star pass rusher Myles Garrett.
Garrett, 29, reportedly requested a trade out of Cleveland, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on February 3. The 2023 Defensive Player of the Year is entering the fourth year of his five-year, $125 million contract and has already accumulated $124.6 million in career earnings.
In 2024, Garrett posted 14 sacks, marking his seventh consecutive season with double-digit sacks. Over the past four seasons, he has registered no fewer than 14 sacks each year and has forced multiple fumbles in three straight seasons. Since entering the league in 2017, he ranks second in sacks behind Pittsburgh Steelers star T.J. Watt, according to Stathead.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Garrett’s trade request is not a tactic to secure a new deal with the Browns. Instead, Fowler adds that the Browns have no intention of trading the former No. 1 overall pick.
“I was told this is not a contract tactic from Myles Garrett, and the Browns are fully prepared to offer him a new deal. It’s not about money; it’s about winning,” Fowler stated on February 3 during “Sports Center.” “The Browns have made it clear they do not intend to trade Garrett and are standing firm in their position.”
Now, the question remains: should the Broncos pursue Garrett and potentially trade valuable assets to acquire him?
