The NBA world was rocked on Saturday night when the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks pulled off a blockbuster trade that no one saw coming. In a shocking move, Dallas sent superstar Luka Doncic to the Lakers in exchange for a package centered around Davis.
As fans and analysts scrambled to process the unexpected deal, CBS Sports’ Bill Reiter claimed to have inside knowledge of underlying tensions. Reiter stated on CBS Sports HQ that James had reportedly grown frustrated with Davis as far back as last year’s trade deadline.
LeBron wasted no time shutting down that narrative. The 40-year-old NBA icon took to X (formerly Twitter) with an emphatic response, tweeting: “You a fkn lie!!!”—leaving no doubt about his stance.
The monumental trade saw Doncic, along with Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris, head to Los Angeles, while Dallas acquired Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round pick. The Utah Jazz also entered the mix, securing Jalen Hood-Schifino from the Lakers and multiple second-round picks from both Dallas and the Los Angeles Clippers.
Even James himself appeared caught off guard by the stunning transaction, proving that the ripple effects of this deal are far from over.
