With the Kansas City Chiefs gearing up in New Orleans for their Super Bowl 59 showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles on Feb. 9, star tight end Travis Kelce couldn’t physically join his brother Jason on ESPN’s They Call It Late Night on Friday. But that didn’t stop the seven-time All-Pro from making a live video call appearance—and sparking a hilarious exchange.
Travis admitted that had the Chiefs fallen to the Buffalo Bills in last weekend’s AFC Championship Game, he would have gladly joined Jason in person. Sensing an opportunity, Jason seized the moment to take a playful jab at the NFL. “Damn it, Josh (Allen), why’d you have to ruin this?” he joked, blaming the Bills quarterback for his brother’s absence.
Travis quickly defended Allen, saying, “Don’t blame Josh. He played his tail off.” But Jason wasn’t done stirring the pot. “Who do I blame then? The officials?” he quipped, referencing the uproar over a few controversial calls that seemingly tilted in the Chiefs’ favor.
Travis brushed off the suggestion, insisting the officiating was fair. But the conversation touched on the swirling conspiracy theories that the Chiefs—thanks in part to Travis’ high-profile romance with Taylor Swift—have been getting favorable calls all season. Some fans believe the NFL benefits from putting Swift on screen as often as possible, increasing revenue and engagement.
However, Chiefs radio voice Mitch Holthus shot down that theory earlier in the week, pointing out that Kansas City ranked only 17th in the NFL for scoring drives extended by penalties—while, ironically, the Bills led the league in that category at 33%.
In the end, the Kelce brothers’ lighthearted banter gave fans yet another memorable moment—while playfully poking holes in the internet’s favorite conspiracy.
