Who will be the next head coach of the Chicago Bears? Team president Kevin Warren and general manager Ryan Poles have been actively conducting interviews to find the right fit for the role.
So far, there hasn’t been a clear pattern emerging in their search, as both offensive coordinators and defensive play-callers have been considered. As the interviews progress, a few unconventional names have surfaced, but none more surprising than the latest candidate.
Chicago Bears Set to Interview Eddie George for Head Coaching Role
Ryan Poles was right when he said the Bears would be casting a wide net in their head coaching search. Now, the process has uncovered a new contender from the college football ranks—one who’s never been considered for an NFL head coaching job until now.
According to Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer, the Bears are interviewing Eddie George, the current head coach at Tennessee State University, for their open position. Yes, the same Eddie George who was a powerhouse running back for the Tennessee Titans.
A member of the College Football Hall of Fame, George retired after the 2004 season. In 2021, he took on the role of head coach at Tennessee State, where he has a 24-22 record. He was named the Big South’s OVC Coach of the Year and led the team to the postseason.
At 51, George may have bigger opportunities ahead, but with no prior coaching experience above the Division I level, his candidacy for the Bears’ head coach position seems unlikely. However, the interview itself could offer valuable experience for the former football star.
