On December 30, Hoover Police responded to a call in the Lake Cyrus neighborhood after a woman reported being abused by her boyfriend, 34-year-old Marcell Dareus.
The victim claimed that an argument escalated when Dareus pushed her to the ground and used a metal object to damage her car. By the time officers arrived, Dareus had already left the scene.
After conducting an investigation, authorities charged Dareus with domestic violence in the 2nd and 3rd degrees.
Dareus surrendered to the Jefferson County Jail on Monday but was later released after posting a $36,000 bond.
Court documents reveal that the victim has since been granted a protective order against Dareus.
