SAD NEWS: Heartache Persists for Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Amidst Distressing Plea for Los Angeles Palisades…

As the Paris Olympics came to a close, the spotlight shifted to Los Angeles, preparing to host the 2028 Games for the first time since 1984. Among the many eager athletes, two-time Olympic 400m hurdles champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone shared her excitement about the upcoming event. “It’s incredible to have the Games in LA, where I currently train. Driving past the Coliseum, I often imagine the scene during the Olympics. I hope LA is ready for that moment—I believe it will be. Hosting the Olympics here is a unique opportunity,” she remarked in December.

However, just a month later, McLaughlin-Levrone’s enthusiasm has turned to worry as wildfires continue to ravage California. Los Angeles holds a special place for her, especially after her stellar performances in 2024.

Before the Paris Olympics, Sydney kicked off her individual track season on May 4 at the Oxy Invitational in LA, winning the 100m hurdles with a time of 12.71 seconds, narrowly missing her personal best from 2021. She also claimed victory in the 200m with a wind-aided time of 22.38 seconds. Her impressive form continued with a stunning win at the LA Grand Prix on May 18, where she set a new personal best of 22.07 seconds in the 200m, narrowly missing the world lead. She triumphed over notable competitors like Tokyo 2020 bronze medalist Gabby Thomas and double relay world champion Abby Steiner, signaling her readiness for Paris.

Amidst the devastation caused by the fires, McLaughlin-Levrone turned to social media, asking for prayers for Los Angeles. Her connection to the city runs deep—her coach Bob Kersee, who transformed her into a champion, has longstanding ties with UCLA. Additionally, her home in LA, which she shares with her NFL husband Andre Levrone Jr., has been threatened by the ongoing fires.
