JUST IN: Baseball Dynasty Continues as Royals Sign Cavan Biggio, Son of Hall of Fame Great Craig Biggio, in a Head-Turning Minor-League Agreement.

The Kansas City Royals have added versatility to their roster, signing utility player Cavan Biggio to a minor-league contract for the 2025 season. The 29-year-old carries a storied baseball legacy as the son of Craig Biggio, a Houston Astros legend and 2015 Hall of Fame inductee.

Cavan Biggio brings six seasons of MLB experience, having played with the Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Atlanta Braves. In the 2024 season, he posted a .197 batting average, hitting five home runs and driving in 19 RBIs across 78 games. Known for his defensive flexibility, Biggio has showcased his skills at multiple positions around the diamond.

Originally a fifth-round pick in the 2016 MLB Draft, Biggio made his major-league debut with the Blue Jays in 2019. His rookie season was impressive, earning him fifth place in the AL Rookie of the Year voting after tallying 35 extra-base hits and 14 stolen bases.

The Royals are looking for a left-handed hitter to fill the third-base role, a position previously occupied by veteran Adam Frazier. Biggio is set to compete for a roster spot during spring training, aiming to carve out a place on a team that has found success with minor-league signings in recent years. For example, reliever Sam Long, signed as a minor-league free agent in 2023, emerged as a key bullpen piece.

With the offseason departures of players like Adam Frazier, Garrett Hampson, Paul DeJong, Tommy Pham, and Yuli Gurriel, the Royals have openings on their bench. While some veteran free agents could potentially return, Biggio presents a fresh option with substantial major-league experience.

In addition to Biggio, the Royals have recently bolstered their roster with minor-league signings of pitchers Austin Cox, Taylor Clarke, and Junior Fernández. As the team continues to fine-tune its lineup, Biggio’s addition could prove to be a key move in shaping their 2025 campaign.
