JUST IN: Walsall Offer New Deal to Star Player Amid Interest from League One and Scottish Premiership Clubs…

Walsall have extended a contract offer to Harry Williams in an effort to ward off interest from clubs in League One and the Scottish Premiership, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke on X.

The Saddlers are keen to retain the 22-year-old defender, who has drawn attention with his strong performances. Williams’ current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, making him a free agent in June 2025 unless a new agreement is reached.

Williams has been a pivotal figure for Walsall this season, featuring in 23 matches across all competitions, including 16 appearances in League Two, where he has contributed two goals. As the January transfer window approaches, O’Rourke reports that unnamed teams from higher divisions and Scotland have expressed interest in the player.

The centre-back joined Walsall in July 2023 from non-league Alvechurch. Upon his signing, manager Mat Sadler remarked to BBC Sport: “The local non-league scene brought him to our attention. He’s spent time with us, and I believe he fits the profile of a young, hidden gem.”

Williams began his career in West Bromwich Albion’s academy, progressing through their youth system before leaving in 2021. He had brief stints with Aston Villa and Burnley before joining Alvechurch, where his performances earned him a move to the Football League with Walsall.

Now, the question remains whether Williams will commit to the League Two leaders. Walsall, under Sadler’s guidance, are dominating the league with 49 points from 22 matches, sitting 12 points clear at the top. They recently secured a 2-0 victory over Newport County and are set to face Notts County on New Year’s Day as they aim for promotion.
