Fresh Setback: Mikaela Shiffrin’s Road to Recovery After Killington Cup Crash…
Mikaela Shiffrin recently experienced a significant hurdle when a crash at the Killington World Cup just after Thanksgiving left her with a puncture wound. This injury has forced her to take a break from competition, with no definitive timeline for her return or confirmation of whether she’ll compete again this season.
In her latest Moving Right Along YouTube episode (Season 3, Episode 2), Shiffrin offers a glimpse into her recovery journey. While there are no new updates about her injury or return, the episode provides an intimate look at her perspective on the process.
Mikaela Shiffrin Reflects:
“Hi Everyone,
Killington has always been one of the most meaningful weekends for me, coinciding with Thanksgiving—a time to reflect on gratitude, spend time with family, and race in front of incredible fans at one of my favorite World Cup venues. This year, with talk about my 100th victory, the expectations were high. But as I’ve always said, nothing is certain in this sport.
The crash in the GS was a stark reminder of how fine the margins are in ski racing. Just a few centimeters or feet could’ve made the difference between missing the gate or crashing. Luck, preparation, and skill all play a role. This time, I wasn’t fortunate, but I’m grateful the injury wasn’t more severe—it could’ve been far worse.
Despite the headlines calling the crash heartbreaking, especially with the stakes so high on home soil, I’m proud of my skiing. Now, I’m focusing on recovery. What’s next? Only time will tell.
Thank you for being part of the journey.
Love,
Miki…
