JUST IN: Yankees Prepare to Shock the Baseball World with $427 Million Trade That Could Send Juan Soto Packing for a Superstar Replacement.

The New York Yankees have been active this offseason, making key moves such as signing Max Fried and Paul Goldschmidt and trading for Cody Bellinger and Devin Williams. However, they have yet to land a player of Juan Soto’s caliber. Luckily, Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. might become available if contract extension talks fall through. Should the two sides fail to reach an agreement, Guerrero would hit the free-agent market next year.

In a trade proposal by FanSided’s Jacob Mountz, the Yankees could land Guerrero by sending outfielder Spencer Jones (the Yankees’ No. 2 prospect), right-handed pitcher Will Warren (No. 5 prospect), and outfielder Everson Pereira (No. 10 prospect) to the Blue Jays. While it would be difficult for the Yankees to part with these top prospects, they may need to make such a trade to acquire Guerrero from a divisional rival. They would also need to feel confident about securing a long-term deal with Guerrero.

Jones, who is regarded as the Yankees’ second-best outfield prospect, would be the centerpiece of the trade. At 23 years old, he has shown incredible raw power, though his challenge has been making consistent contact. Last season, he set a new Yankees minor league strikeout record. However, his speed has allowed him to rack up stolen bases and play center field effectively. If Jones can improve his contact, he has the potential to become a star.
