The MLB offseason is in full swing, with blockbuster trades and major signings transforming rosters across the league. Yet, for every deal that goes through, many others are rejected, revised, or abandoned altogether.
MLB insider Jim Bowden recently revealed that the Philadelphia Phillies made a bold attempt to acquire Houston Astros star right fielder Kyle Tucker. Their offer? Right fielder Nick Castellanos and infielder Alec Bohm. However, the Astros turned it down.
“The Astros aren’t sold on Bohm’s defense,” Bowden explained on MLB Network Radio, shedding light on why the trade fell apart. “Even though Phillies manager Rob Thomson has praised Bohm’s defensive improvements, the Astros’ evaluation differs—they don’t see him as a viable third baseman.”
With Juan Soto now committed to the New York Mets for the long haul, Tucker has become one of the top offseason targets still in play.
The Phillies are eager to bolster their lineup, aiming to add stability around stars like Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, and Trea Turner. Substituting Tucker for Castellanos and Bohm could have been a significant upgrade, but Houston’s reluctance leaves Philadelphia exploring other options.
For now, Castellanos and Bohm remain on the table, so if any team is interested, Philadelphia is ready to negotiate.
