The Baltimore Ravens have decided to suspend wide receiver Diontae Johnson for their upcoming game against the New York Giants, following his refusal to play in their recent loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Despite the absence of wide receiver Rashod Bateman due to knee soreness, Johnson did not participate in Sunday’s game. Head coach John Harbaugh initially refrained from commenting on the situation, maintaining his position when addressing the media on Monday.
On Wednesday, Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta released a statement, confirming the suspension: “We have made the difficult decision to suspend Diontae Johnson for our next game against the New York Giants due to conduct detrimental to the team. Diontae’s suspension stems from his refusal to participate in the game against the Philadelphia Eagles. We will not be making any further comments on this matter.”
The Ravens are currently on a bye week before their December 15th matchup with the Giants. Attempts to reach Johnson’s agent for a response have gone unanswered.
Johnson, in the final year of his contract, was acquired by the Ravens from the Carolina Panthers in October. However, the 28-year-old receiver has had limited impact, catching only one pass in his four games with the team.
