The San Francisco 49ers are grappling with yet another potential setback as injuries continue to plague their roster. After Sunday’s narrow 20-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks—a game the 49ers controlled for over 44 minutes—the team faces uncertainty surrounding one of their key players. Already coping with 11 players on the reserve/injured list, including crucial contributors like Brandon Aiyuk, Elijah Mitchell, and Talanoa Hufanga, the situation took a turn for the worse when star pass-rusher Nick Bosa revealed he’s nursing an oblique injury that could sideline him for upcoming games.
“It’s definitely a concern,” Bosa admitted to reporters, acknowledging the possibility of missing time. “I tried to push through last week, but I ended up compensating, and now my other oblique is affected. We’ll see how it feels tomorrow.”
Bosa’s absence was palpable in the game’s critical moments, as he watched from the sidelines while Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith orchestrated an 11-play, 80-yard game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter. Frustrated by his inability to contribute, Bosa remarked, “The most important time in the game, I couldn’t be out there. I hate missing time, which is why I tried to push through, but hopefully, if I do miss time, it’s not too long.”
Losing Bosa, the team’s defensive cornerstone, would be a significant blow. Entering Sunday’s game, the 27-year-old led the 49ers in pressures (49), hurries (33), QB hits (10), and sacks (5.5). Against Seattle, he further showcased his dominance with 1.5 sacks, two tackles for loss, and two quarterback hits. However, with the defensive line already weakened by the season-ending loss of edge-rusher Drake Jackson and the absence of Javon Hargrave, the 49ers may need backups like Leonard Floyd, Yetur Gross-Matos, and Robert Beal to step up in Bosa’s potential absence.
As the 49ers navigate this challenging stretch, the hope is that Bosa’s recovery will be swift, allowing the team to remain competitive despite their mounting injury woes.
