Rumors about a potential collaboration between Caitlin Clark and Flau’jae Johnson at the Indiana Fever under coach Stephanie White are gaining traction following Johnson’s recent comments.
Flau’jae Johnson, a standout for the LSU Tigers, has stirred speculation about her future in the WNBA by expressing admiration for White, the Fever’s new head coach. Johnson, eligible for the 2025 WNBA Draft, could potentially join Clark, the 2024 Rookie of the Year, at the Fever. On her podcast Best of Both Worlds, Johnson praised White, saying:
“The Fever having Stephanie White as a head coach… I love that. She’s a players’ coach. When she was recruiting me at Vanderbilt, I thought, ‘I like this lady; I want to play for her.’”
White, who coached at Vanderbilt during Johnson’s high school transition, made a lasting impression despite leaving the program before Johnson committed to LSU. Johnson admitted she would have strongly considered Vanderbilt if White had stayed, highlighting her preference for coaches she connects with.
Johnson’s collegiate achievements include an NCAA Championship with LSU, the SEC Freshman of the Year award, and recognition as a McDonald’s All-American in 2022. During the 2023/24 season, she averaged 14.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.1 steals per game, underscoring her potential for a successful WNBA career.
Stephanie White, a former Fever player (2000–2004), returned as head coach in November 2023 after a successful stint with the Connecticut Sun, where she led the team to second place in the Eastern Conference. White expressed excitement about her new role, saying:
“I am honored to return to Indiana and lead the Fever at such a pivotal moment. This franchise is committed to winning, and I look forward to working towards another WNBA title.”
If Johnson joins the Fever, she would pair up with Caitlin Clark, whose record-breaking rookie season in 2024 included the most points and assists by a first-year player and becoming the fastest player to reach 100 three-pointers. Clark’s impact secured her 66 of 67 votes for Rookie of the Year.
