JUST IN: Washington Commanders Fuel Playoff Dreams with Jaw-Dropping Trade for Saints’ Pro Bowl Cornerback.

The Washington Commanders shocked the NFL by trading for Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore from the New Orleans Saints just before the trade deadline. In exchange, the Commanders sent third-, fourth-, and sixth-round picks in the 2025 NFL Draft to New Orleans, while also securing a fifth-round pick in return. Pending a physical, Lattimore’s arrival significantly strengthens Washington’s secondary as the team, with a strong 7-2 record, aims to make a deep playoff push.

At 28 years old, Lattimore brings elite coverage skills to Washington’s defense. Known for his ability to shut down opposing receivers, he hasn’t allowed a touchdown in coverage since 2021, solidifying his value despite fewer interceptions. Lattimore joins a secondary already featuring standout cornerbacks Benjamin St-Juste and rookie Mike Sainristil, as well as safeties Jeremy Chinn and Quan Martin, forming a promising defensive unit poised to make a playoff run.

The Saints, in contrast, are undergoing major changes following the firing of head coach Dennis Allen after a rough 2-7 start to the season. The trade of Lattimore, a former AP Defensive Rookie of the Year, signals a significant shift as the team looks to rebuild. Recent injuries, including hamstring issues, and ongoing trade rumors likely factored into the decision to part ways with the star cornerback.

For the Commanders, the trade is a low-risk, high-reward move. General manager Adam Peters secured Lattimore without sacrificing key assets, using draft picks obtained through prior trades, and his restructured contract makes the acquisition financially favorable. The move also provides flexibility in handling cornerback Emmanuel Forbes, who has struggled this season and was recently benched. With Lattimore in the fold, Washington can better manage their secondary as they continue their surprising season.

In a corresponding move, the Commanders released defensive end Efe Obada, reinforcing their commitment to improving their pass defense as they continue their playoff chase.
