“Canucks’ Star Right Wing Out Indefinitely After Headshot from Kings’ Jeannot”

Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser is sidelined indefinitely following a headshot delivered by Tanner Jeannot of the Los Angeles Kings.

Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet said he is uncertain about how long Boeser—Vancouver’s top scorer—will be out. “It’s indefinite right now. These things can change in a week or 24 hours. I don’t know,” Tocchet commented.

The incident occurred midway through the first period of a 4-2 victory over the Kings, when Jeannot was penalized for a match penalty for an illegal check to Boeser’s head. The NHL Department of Player Safety issued a three-game suspension for Jeannot on Friday.

Boeser left the game in Los Angeles and was absent for the Canucks’ 7-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday. “It’s a dangerous play, and hopefully Brock is going to be OK,” Tocchet said.

Boeser, who leads the Canucks with six goals and 11 total points in 12 games, will be replaced in the lineup by 20-year-old forward Jonathan Lekkerimaki, who was called up from Abbotsford of the AHL on Sunday. Lekkerimaki, the No. 15 overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, could make his NHL debut when the Calgary Flames visit Vancouver on Tuesday. He has recorded seven points (five goals, two assists) in seven games with Abbotsford.
