The Colorado Avalanche have reportedly decided against trading Valeri Nichushkin while he remains in Stage 3 of the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program.
Despite interest from other teams like the Chicago Blackhawks, who considered a trade but ultimately opted against it, the Avalanche are committed to supporting Nichushkin through his rehabilitation process.
With a no-movement clause in his contract, Nichushkin would need to approve any trade, but Colorado currently shows no interest in moving him.
NHL insider Chris Johnston discussed the situation on his podcast, noting that the Avalanche are adamant about not trading Nichushkin during this period as they focus on his recovery and personal well-being.
Nichushkin, who is actively participating in rehab, has attracted attention for his on-ice performance, especially ranking sixth in playoff goal scoring despite missing games. However, concerns linger about his prolonged absence and the associated risks, which have influenced Colorado’s cautious approach in the offseason.
