JUST IN: Toronto Blue Jays GM Boldly Shuts Down Bo Bichette Trade Speculation.

As the 2025 season approaches, Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette is set to enter the final year of his contract, but that’s not prompting the team to trade him anytime soon.

Despite his name circulating in trade rumors as the Blue Jays were eliminated from playoff contention, Toronto’s General Manager Ross Atkins has made it clear that Bichette remains a key part of the team’s future. Speaking with MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, Atkins emphasized Bichette’s importance to the team’s plans: “He’s very much part of our plans. He’s going to be one of the better players in the game. He has been, over portions of his career.”

Bichette’s lackluster 2024 season may have played a role in the Blue Jays’ decision to hold on to him. Limited to just 81 games, Bichette posted a career-low .225 batting average, with only four home runs, 31 RBIs, and five stolen bases, while his .598 OPS was 200 points below his career average. Injuries were a factor, but it marked the toughest year of his career.

However, Bichette’s impressive resume—two All-Star appearances and a career .290 batting average with 93 home runs, 343 RBIs, and 56 stolen bases—makes him an attractive asset. At just 26 years old, there’s little doubt teams would be interested if he were to be put on the trade block.

But for now, the Blue Jays aren’t looking to move him. Despite missing the playoffs in 2024, the team made three postseason appearances from 2020 to 2023, though they were all cut short in the Wild Card Series. The Blue Jays are still committed to their current core, and as long as they remain in the playoff hunt and Bichette stays healthy, he will continue as Toronto’s starting shortstop. Should their playoff hopes fade, the team could reassess its future direction.
