The Patriots are gearing up for a busy trade deadline, but their plans may extend beyond just trading players.
Recent reports indicate that New England is considering a prominent free agent. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler revealed that the team has “been in touch” with free agent offensive tackle D.J. Humphries. Despite suffering a torn ACL in the last week of the previous season, he has attracted interest from teams in need of tackles.
Additionally, the Patriots reportedly “checked in” with the Jacksonville Jaguars regarding offensive tackle Cam Robinson before he was traded to the Minnesota Vikings.
At 30 years old, Humphries recently had a workout with the New York Giants but left without signing a contract. Before making a move, New England would need to assess his knee condition, but the former first-round pick has demonstrated strong performance throughout his eight-year career with the Arizona Cardinals.
Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 307 pounds, Humphries would bring invaluable veteran experience to the Patriots’ offensive line, particularly given the week-to-week uncertainty surrounding Vederian Lowe’s status.
