Caitlin Clark has issued a strong warning to her WNBA competitors as she prepares for the 2025 season, shortly after her Indiana Fever team was eliminated from the 2024 playoffs.
The season ended on a high note for the 22-year-old, who won the Rookie of the Year award, despite the Fever’s early exit following a first-round loss to the Connecticut Sun.
Although Indiana had missed the playoffs for the past eight seasons, there were renewed hopes this year thanks to the league’s top young talent.
Despite the disappointing end to the season, Clark is already focused on the upcoming 2025 campaign. The Indiana Fever’s official X account shared a video showing Clark working hard during her post-season training.
In the video, she expressed, “I feel like I’m just scratching the surface. There are so many areas I want to improve, and I plan to work on those every single day.”
The footage showcased Clark hitting three-pointers and showcasing her impressive dribbling skills.
This comes after a pivotal season for the WNBA, which saw a surge in viewership, ticket sales, and merchandise revenue, largely attributed to Clark’s influence. However, the league still faces financial challenges, reportedly on track for a £30 million loss this year, with experts predicting it may take years before it becomes profitable.
An executive mentioned to the New York Post that “the WNBA owes the NBA so much, we won’t see any windfall for years.” The future financial viability of the league hinges on Clark’s health and her ability to play on a competitive team, as highlighted by ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith.
