The Los Angeles Rams are open to trading star wide receiver Cooper Kupp during the 2024 season, though the cost may be high. According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Rams are asking for a second-round pick in return, and they’re willing to cover part of Kupp’s 2024 salary to facilitate the deal.
While the price may deter some teams, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could be a good fit for Kupp, especially given their need for wide receiver depth with injuries to both Chris Godwin and Mike Evans. A trade proposal from Chris Licata of Athlon Sports suggests the Buccaneers could offer a conditional 2025 third-round pick, which could turn into a second-round pick, in exchange for Kupp.
Given Kupp’s age and injury history, many teams may be hesitant to give up a second-round pick, making this proposal a reasonable option. Additionally, Kupp would be familiar with Tampa Bay’s offensive coordinator Liam Coen, who previously worked with him as the Rams’ offensive coordinator in 2022 and during 2018-2019.
Other teams, like the Pittsburgh Steelers and San Francisco 49ers, are potential fits for Kupp, but Tampa Bay’s need is more urgent with Godwin out for the season and Evans sidelined until at least Week 12.
Whether or not the Buccaneers pursue Kupp remains to be seen, but they need to make moves to stay competitive in their playoff push. Having just signed quarterback Baker Mayfield to a $100 million, three-year contract, Tampa Bay will want to ensure they’re in playoff contention. The Bucs currently sit at 4-3, tied with the Atlanta Falcons for the NFC South lead.
