The Kansas City Chiefs maintained their unbeaten record, moving to 6-0 after defeating the San Francisco 49ers 28-18 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on Sunday afternoon. The loss brought the 49ers’ season record to 3-4.
During the game, the 49ers suffered a significant setback with running back Brandon Aiyuk potentially tearing his ACL. The Chiefs also faced injury issues of their own, as cornerback Jaylen Watson sustained an injury in the fourth quarter and didn’t return. He was later seen on crutches with his foot in a cast.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid mentioned that they are still waiting for a final diagnosis on Watson’s injury but are not expecting good news. “I think Jaylen will be out long term,” Reid stated. “We’ll see what the MRI says, but I don’t think it’s going to be great news,” he said to Arrowhead Pride.
Additionally, the Chiefs lost wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster to a hamstring injury, which led to his status being downgraded from “questionable” to “out.”
The Chiefs’ next game will be on the road against the Las Vegas Raiders, with the kickoff scheduled for 4:25 PM EST on Sunday.
Jaylen Watson, now in his third season with the Chiefs, was drafted 243rd overall by Kansas City in the 2022 NFL Draft after playing college football at Ventura College and Washington State. In his rookie season, he made three tackles that contributed to the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVII victory against the Philadelphia Eagles.
In the following season, Watson had 33 tackles and six passes defended, playing a key role in helping the Chiefs secure another Super Bowl victory in Super Bowl LVIII against the 49ers. He notably recovered a muffed punt by San Francisco and made two tackles during the game.
This season, Watson has appeared in six games, recording 19 tackles and six pass deflections so far.
