Jonathan Evans Speaks About His Father…
Jonathan Evans, the son of Dr. Tony Evans, addressed his father’s recent decision to take a break from his pastoral duties, citing personal reasons related to sin. On June 9, Dr. Evans, the lead pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, Texas, announced his temporary resignation.
During a special Father’s Day sermon, Jonathan spoke on behalf of his father, acknowledging the support his father has provided for countless people through various mediums like counseling, preaching, and media. Jonathan expressed that it was now his turn to offer support, saying, “It’s an honor for me to return the favor.”
Jonathan shared that many had asked him about his feelings on the situation, to which he responded with faith and optimism. He stated, “I feel like we’ve already won. I feel like we’re on the offense, not defense. His word is true, and I know God’s work isn’t finished yet.”
Reflecting on a moment three days before Dr. Evans informed the family of his decision, Jonathan mentioned that he had been studying Psalm 46. He realized that this was God preparing him for the news and guiding him for the Father’s Day sermon. Jonathan then delivered a message, not only for his father but also for the entire congregation, reminding them of God’s unwavering presence.
During the service, Jonathan encouraged the congregation not to worry about Dr. Evans stepping down. He assured them that God was in control, and they would continue the work God had called them to do. He expressed confidence that they would celebrate his father’s return in due time.
Dr. Tony Evans has served as the pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship for 48 years.
