The Steelers are already facing challenges with a lack of depth at outside linebacker, and now one of their young, talented pass rushers has exited the game.
The Steelers’ defense has been effective in pressuring Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott whenever he has been forced to hold onto the ball. That task has become tougher now that Nick Herbig has left the field with what appears to be a leg injury.
Herbig had been performing well against the Dallas offensive line, playing opposite T.J. Watt. He helped Watt achieve his 100th career sack and contributed additional pressures.
Unfortunately, Herbig’s day was cut short due to a possible leg injury. He was briefly examined in the blue medical tent before being seen limping back to the locker room.
Reports indicate that Herbig suffered a hamstring injury, and his return is uncertain. The broadcast did not show a replay of the injury, and there have been no further updates from NBC.
This is another blow for the Steelers, who are no strangers to the injury bug.
Earlier in the week, Herbig was listed on the injury report with an ankle injury he picked up in his first NFL start against Indianapolis last week.
Before leaving the game, Herbig had already recorded two tackles and half a sack. He has been effective filling in for Alex Highsmith, who is also sidelined with a hamstring injury. Unfortunately, Herbig has now dealt with injuries in both of his NFL starts.
With Herbig out, DeMarvin Leal and Jeremiah Moon are expected to rotate with Watt to keep up the pressure on Prescott in what remains a close contest.
We’ll keep an eye on Herbig’s condition as more updates come in.
