Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch discussed recent roster cuts, highlighting the tough decision to send Noah Philp to the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors.
Philp performed well in training camp and was close to securing a spot on the NHL roster. Knoblauch acknowledged how difficult it was to inform players, like Philp, who worked hard all summer to make the team, that they weren’t quite ready yet.
Regarding Philp, Knoblauch emphasized that while he made a strong impression, it was best for him to start in the AHL and play significant minutes.
He mentioned that it wouldn’t be beneficial for Philp to play limited minutes with the Oilers, as he needs more time to refine the small details in his game. Knoblauch expressed confidence that Philp is very close and expects to see him back with the team at some point this season.
