Nike’s recent attempt to spotlight Caitlin Clark has backfired, as fans criticize the company for its timing and lack of support throughout the 2024 WNBA season.
Despite Clark being named the WNBA Rookie of the Year, Nike only put up a promotional banner of her at Gainbridge Fieldhouse after the official announcement, leading to backlash on social media.
Fans expressed frustration, accusing Nike of neglecting one of its top athletes and failing to capitalize on her popularity with merchandise or marketing efforts.
The criticism comes shortly after Nike reported a decline in sales, and although the company signed Clark to a major endorsement deal, they have yet to release any Clark-themed products, further fueling the discontent.
