Houston Astros’ playoff run ended earlier than usual, missing the American League Championship Series for the first time since 2016, and now the team is facing internal pressure from its players ahead of a crucial offseason.
Despite efforts to cut payroll in recent years, the Astros are still focused on contending for another World Series. However, with key players like Alex Bregman hitting free agency, tensions are rising.
All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve, who usually stays quiet, publicly urged the organization to re-sign Bregman, emphasizing his value to the team. “He’s given so much to this organization. It’s time we repay him and ensure he stays… we won’t be the same without him,” Altuve said.
Altuve recently signed a $125 million extension through 2029 and hopes the Astros will do the same for his friend Bregman. While Bregman’s 2024 season had its challenges, he finished strong, making his future a major talking point for the Astros’ offseason.
The front office will now decide whether to enter a potential bidding war to retain him, knowing that losing Bregman could hurt both the team’s performance and fan morale.
