An Already Battered Saints Offensive Line Saw Another Key Player Sidelined From Practice Due to Injury Setback.

The New Orleans Saints are facing significant challenges with their offensive line. Pro Bowl center Erik McCoy is currently on injured reserve, and right guard Cesar Ruiz, who missed last week’s game against Atlanta, hasn’t returned to practice yet. On Friday, a third starting offensive lineman, Lucas Patrick, also missed practice due to a groin injury. Patrick had started all four games at left guard and filled in at center when needed.

Adding to the concerns, last week’s starting center Shane Lemieux missed his second practice due to an ankle injury. Rookie left tackle Taliese Fuaga, already dealing with a back issue, was limited in practice after the team listed a knee injury in Friday’s report.

To address the lack of depth, the Saints signed veteran center Connor McGovern from the New York Jets’ practice squad. Aside from McCoy, Ruiz, Patrick, and Lemieux, McGovern is the only player on the roster with starting experience at center.

Other players missing from Friday’s practice include Ruiz, linebacker Willie Gay (hand), tight end Taysom Hill (rib), and defensive end Payton Turner (knee). Limited participants included Fuaga, linebacker Demario Davis (hamstring), running back Alvin Kamara (hip/ribs), and defensive tackle Bryan Bresee (ankle).
