The Pittsburgh Steelers have surprised many by starting the 2024 season with a 3-1 record, despite their offensive line suffering from several injuries. Recognizing the need for reinforcements, the Steelers made a notable move by picking up veteran guard Max Scharping from the Washington Commanders’ practice squad. With their injury situation, Scharping might be inserted into the starting lineup as early as Week 5.

According to Jeremy Fowler, the Steelers are signing Scharping due to the team being “decimated by injuries” and his past experience as a starter.

Scharping, originally a second-round pick for the Houston Texans in 2019, showed promise early in his career but saw a decline in performance, leading to his release before the 2022 season. Since then, he’s had stints with the Cincinnati Bengals, Philadelphia Eagles, and Commanders.
