Brad Treliving Adds Three Low-Cost UFAs to Maple Leafs
The minor deals Brad Treliving mentioned on Monday are now finalized. On the second day of NHL free agency, the Maple Leafs’ general manager signed three players to one-year contracts worth $775,000 each: defensemen Dakota Mermis and Philippe Myers, and center Cedric Pare.
Mermis, a six-foot-tall defenseman from Illinois, has the most recent NHL experience among the trio, having played 74 games with Minnesota, Arizona, and New Jersey. Last year, he scored eight points in 47 games for the Wild and served as the captain of the Iowa Wild in the AHL.
Myers, 27, previously played for the Toronto Marlies on loan from Nashville. He appeared in five games for the Tampa Bay Lightning last year after being promoted from Syracuse, where he scored 23 points. In his 158 NHL games with Philadelphia, Nashville, and Tampa, the 6-foot-6, 220-pound defenseman from Moncton, N.B., has accumulated 36 points.
Pare, 25, signed a two-way contract after recording 35 points in 61 games with the AHL’s Colorado Eagles last season. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound native of Levis, Que., has yet to play in the NHL, having been drafted by Boston in the sixth round in 2017.
Additionally, on Tuesday, the Maple Leafs confirmed a one-year deal for goaltender Matt Murray worth $875,000.
