News Update: Elliotte Friedman Comments on Bruins’ Jeremy Swayman Trade Rumors
The ongoing situation between the Boston Bruins and their potential starting goaltender, Jeremy Swayman, who is still a restricted free agent, continues to develop.
Elliotte Friedman recently addressed rumors surrounding Swayman and the possibility of a trade, as well as dismissing reports of an eight-year contract having already been signed. According to Friedman, while there is still a significant gap between what Swayman wants and what the Bruins are offering, a trade is not expected anytime soon.
Friedman noted on the September 20 episode of the “32 Thoughts” podcast that although he hasn’t spoken directly with Bruins GM Don Sweeney, he believes the team is not interested in trading Swayman. While there may be speculation that the Bruins could consider a trade due to the contract standoff, Friedman was clear that no such move is currently planned.
Despite the contract issues, the Bruins appear committed to keeping Swayman as their goalie both this season and in the future. With the team already having parted ways with Linus Ullmark, they aren’t looking to trade both of their top goalies.
Friedman added that GM Don Sweeney’s mention of a December 1 deadline during a recent press conference was likely a negotiation tactic, intended to prevent any leverage or pressure being applied during the ongoing contract talks.
