TRANSFER UPDATE: Boston Bruins Sign Former Maple Leafs Goalie to Professional Try-out (PTO).
The Boston Bruins have strengthened their goaltending lineup by signing former Toronto Maple Leafs goalie, Kasimir Kaskisuo, to a professional tryout (PTO) contract. This move comes as the team deals with Jeremy Swayman’s ongoing contract holdout.
“General Manager Don Sweeney announced today, September 19, that the team has signed goaltender Kasimir Kaskisuo to a Professional Tryout Agreement (PTO),” the NHL posted on its website.
Kaskisuo, 30, has spent most of his career moving between various leagues. He has only appeared in two NHL games, with the majority of his experience coming in the AHL, including five seasons with the Toronto Marlies.
Last season, Kaskisuo played 13 games with the Laval Rocket, the Montreal Canadiens’ AHL affiliate, where he recorded a .909 save percentage and a 2.79 goals-against average.
Although Kaskisuo hasn’t established himself as a regular NHL player, his experience and steady play should provide some support to the Bruins while they continue negotiations with Swayman.
Earlier this summer, the Bruins traded Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators and received Joonas Korpisalo in return. While Korpisalo is typically seen as a backup, he is expected to start as the Bruins’ No. 1 goalie unless a new deal with Swayman is reached.
With limited depth behind Korpisalo—featuring only Brandon Bussi and Michael DiPietro—the Bruins have brought in Kaskisuo to strengthen their goaltending options during training camp and the preseason.
