Puerto Princesa is taking the lead in sustainable sports tourism by hosting the 2024 ICF Dragon Boat World Championships, combining top-tier athletic competition with a strong focus on environmental advocacy through the innovative “Paddle Together for Climate Action” campaign.

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Philippines, Sept. 12, 2024 — Puerto Princesa is stepping onto the world stage as it prepares to host the International Canoe Federation (ICF) Dragon Boat World Championships from October 28 to November 4, 2024. This event is a significant milestone in the city’s bid to establish itself as a key player in global sustainable sports tourism.

Organized by the Philippine Canoe and Kayak Federation (PCKF), the event will feature elite teams from over 20 nations competing in the scenic waters of Puerto Princesa Baywalk. According to PCKF President Leonora Escollante, “The championships offer a perfect blend of top-tier competition and environmental advocacy, further bolstering Puerto Princesa’s status as a pioneer in sustainable tourism. The event seeks not only to showcase athletic prowess but also to demonstrate how sports can contribute to positive environmental change.”
